"He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat and live forever."Genesis 3:22 (NIV)
"What if I told you it's possible to stop the aging process and live in better health than you have right now?" quips the infomercial host."And what if I told you that you can look and feel twenty years younger and stay that way?Our scientists have discovered the magic formula that will keep you young forever!"
"Wow, honey, let's call the toll-free number. Then WE can live forever too!"
Its almost a sin to be old in todays world. After all, who will want us when were wrinkled and bald? The elderly are often marginalized outcasts alone and forgotten.
Aging is to be avoided at all costs.
So we think young. We look young. We're active to the max. We'll do anything to be young because youth equals vitality.Have we finally found the fountain of youth that explorers searched for hundreds of years ago?
Americans are determined to live forever. With medical science it almost seems possible. But why are we so desperate for immortality?Could it be a secret fear of death?Life is merely a vapor, the wind blows over, and we're gone and forgotten.
Then what about these commercial promises?Well, only Jesus has the words of eternal life.So rather than pursue wild dreams of endless youth, perhaps we should see to our spiritual lives instead. After all, the assurance of God is the one miracle cure that actually delivers.
Do you really want to live forever? You'll need a game plan with undeniable results:
·Look in the mirror and be honest. Are you obsessed with staying young?
·Try acting your age.Apply your wisdom to disciple a younger person.
·Give up sandbox spirituality.Get serious about your faith.
Balance is the key.Staying healthy and fit is great.Looking your best is commendable.Even coloring your hair is fine.Just don't fall for society's "live forever" magic pill.Remember Jesus saves. Botox doesn't.
